Elon Musk is adding new Features to Twitter, here’s what they are

In recent news Verge has acquired recordings of Elon Musk's meeting with Twitter employees from Monday. In these recordings, he said he wants to encrypt direct messages for security and add voice and video chat functions.

Musk told of how Twitter could allow for secure calls without being concerned about their privacy by not having to give out a phone number. (Which is the case with Signal the app)

Musk also said that a former Twitter employee and the creator of the messaging app Signal Moxie Marlinspike could help with the plans.

Musk’s PowerPoint presentation titled "Twitter 2.0" used the term last week, emailing staff an ultimatum to work "extremely hardcore" or be fired.

The reasoning behind the encryption of messages on Twitter comes from August when an ex-employee was found guilty of spying after sending along Twitter users' information to Saudi Arabia after reportedly being paid $300,000 to do so. Musk stated, "It should be the case that I can't look at anyone's DMs if somebody has a gun to my head."

It is still unclear if these features will be only for those paying the $8 a month feature. Rumours also have it that the planned features could also be tied to Musk's idea of "creating X, the everything app." The world's richest person, Elon Musk, bought the domain name X.com over five years ago and told of a new super app comparable to China's WeChat.
